Ikonic Entertainment Group of Los Angeles is teaming up with a Chinese investment group to build a $3.1-billion martial arts-themed park and leisure resort at ethereally beautiful Wudang Mountain. Game of Assassins

Game of Assassins is one of a handful period drama/wuxia genre movies that are scheduled for 2012 release. However, this China’s production has limited media publicity. Other than promotional posters, there is no teaser trailer or set release date. Game of Assassin is directed by Miao Shu and with it stars Leung Kar-Yan as King of Wei in addition with veteran Chen Kuan Tai as General Tu Jia. Huayi Brothers Tai Chi 0

Huayi Brothers’ latest project, “Tai Chi” trilogy has been on production for sometimes since the middle of last year. Its initial promotional poster attracted a lot of overseas producers after it was unveiled during the 64th Cannes Film Festival. Remake of the Flying Guillotines

The Guillotines is the new Andrew Lau’s film of the remake Shaw Brother’s classic the Flying Guillotines. Initially, it was Dante Lam to direct the movie, however Emperor Motion Pictures backed him into another project. The film will star Huang XiaoMing, Ethan Juan, Shawn Yue, Li YuChun and Boran Jing.

The Grandmasters 2nd Trailer Released

Director Wong Kar Wai‘s latest movie, The Grandmasters, recently released its second trailer. Tony Leung Chiu Wai stars as the late wing chun master Ip Man. It’s the 3rd films about the legendary martial artist, whose students included Bruce Lee.  Other a stellar cast of the movie includes Zhang Ziyi, South Korean star Song Hye Kyo, comedian Zhao BenShan and Xiao ShenYang. The movie is set against the backdrop of the martial art world during the Republican Period. There will be other kung fu masters and schools making appearances in the movie.

This $25 million Mandarin-language biopic of Ip Man began filming back in December 2009. However Wong Kar Wai’s attention to even the tiniest detail meant it has stopped and started again numerous times with the delays frustrating many. Continue reading “The Grandmasters 2nd Trailer Released”

White Vengeance Finished Filming

White Vengeance or Hong Men Yan (鴻門宴) is the latest movie by writer-director Daniel Lee, which is a direct reference to what is known as one of the most famous feasts in history, Feast at Hong Gate. After three months of intense filming schedules, the shooting of White Vengeance is coming to an end. The movie is expected to wrap up production next month.

The Feast at Hong Gate was a well-known event in China around 206 BCE where warring general Xiang Yu (項羽) was motivated to assassinate his rival, Liu Bang (劉邦). This landmark historical event occurred after the destruction of the mighty Qin Dynasty (秦朝) at the hands of Xiang Yu and Liu Bang where it served as the catalyst of the fallout between the two great generals. Reign of Assassins Blu-ray Available Today

John Woo’s Reign of Assassins Blu-ray is on sale today. Co-directed by Su Chao-Pin, Reign of Assassins starred Michelle Yeoh and Jung Woo-Sung along with star-studded supporting cast of Barbie Hsu, Kelly Lin, Pace Wu, Jiang Yi Yan and Paw Hee Ching. Set in ancient China, the main character is similar to Hollywood’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

The New Monkey King Starts Filming November 15th

Production of the Monkey King gets underway this week which dubbed as the biggest budget of Chinese language movie to date (around US$ 45 million). It will be filmed in full stereoscopic 3D and IMAX that heavily depends on Hollywood’s VFX consultant. The Monkey King is scheduled for release in mainland China cinemas in July 2012. The movie is adapted from Chinese classic Journey to the West and it’s directed by Ah Gan.

The Legend of Chen Zhen Blu-ray Release Date

Legend of the Fist: Return of Chen Zhen Blu-ray will be released on November 18th, 2010. Produced by Gordan Chan and directed by Andrew Lau, Donnie Yen took the role of Chen Zhen who returned to Shanghai under the disguise of a wealthy entrepreneur to prevent assassination plan colluded by the invading Japanese and the local mafia. Anthony Wong led the supporting cast along with Huang Bo, Shu Qi, and Chen Jia Jia. Yasuaki Kurata who appeared in numerous Shaw Brothers’ movies in the 70’s made a cameo appearance.
